Natural Resources Management and Environmental Informatics

The natural resource "land" is subject to high land use pressure. Housing, traffic, agriculture, and commercial uses as well as the natural landscapes have highly diverse demands and are often competitors. The conservation of a coherent natural resources network is becoming increasingly important to ensure the sustained existence of the biodiversity. Balanced land use management is necessary to meet the diverse land demands, to minimize the land use conflicts and to ensure that the legal regulations are adhered to. Predictions on the possible impacts planned projects would have on the natural resources or risk analyses are specified. This target can only be reached by interdisciplinary measures and with profound background knowledge. The use of computer technology is usually essential if the complex problem constellation and the data volume are to be efficiently administered and analyzed.

The Natural Resources Management and Environmental Informatics Department advises it clients on all phases of natural resources management: The actual problem is analyzed in detailed. Thereafter the basic data required is gathered and used to evaluate the situation and if necessary to develop a catalog of measures. The implementation is transparent and the success monitored and documented.
